In 2018, after visiting her grandmother in Ghana, designer Sante was inspired by the vibrancy of the Arts, Music, Fashion and Culture there, as well as stories her grandmother shared of her city centre shop where she sold beads. Passionate about sharing her brand of bead work with the world, HANDS was born.

Hailing from generations of women working with beads – with her grandmother selling them in cartons, her mother fashioning them into matching jewellery sets, and her auntie creating accessories – Sante has carried on the tradition designing bags, purses, andhead bands with her own unique bold and colourful, statement style.

In most parts of Africa, beads are a symbol used in celebration of womanhood, sexuality, femininity, fertility, healing, spirituality, body shaping, first menses, protection, seduction, and wealth, amongst other things – and it is very important to Sante to preserve this culture.
